City to consider alley closure request from Stella A s | News, Sports, Jobs

LAURA JAMESON ljameson@lockhaven.com LOCK HAVEN City council will consider adopting a resolution that would close Sarah’s Alley for at least 90 days. The closure was requested by Louis Anastos, owner of Stella A’s Bar & Grill. The downtown restaurant is located on one side of the alley, with the Strouse Law Firm sharing the other side. Anastos made the request to expand the restaurant’s outdoor dining to the city last week. Anastos said he spoke with the landlords of both Stella A’s and the law firm who expressed their approval. He also discussed the proposal with the restaurant’s insurance company and a representative of the Pennsylvania Liquor Control Board.

LAURA JAMESON ljameson@lockhaven.com LOCK HAVEN –Residents of Lock Haven will have an option to make payments on their 2021 real estate taxes. City council approved an ordinance this week that would allow those who opt into the plan to pay their 2021 real estate taxes in four separate payments instead of all at once. “The payment plan enables a more flexible way to make smaller payments to pay off the tax bill at face value,” City Manager Gregory Wilson said. Those who choose to use the payment plan must make payments worth 25 percent of their property tax four times over the span of the year.

LAURA JAMESON ljameson@lockhaven.com LOCK HAVEN City council took time to thank Lock Haven University President Robert Pignatello for his service to the university and city during their meeting this week. Pignatello was named Senior Advisor to the Chancellor for Integration Strategy for the Pennsylvania State System of Higher Education and will be leaving his role at LHU on Feb. 5. “This Friday, President Pignatello leaves LHU to go and do whatever it is the Chancellor of PASSHE wants him to do. I think it would be a shame if that departure took place without us acknowledging the contribution that he made in his time here,” Councilman Richard Morris said.

City declares snow emergency | News, Sports, Jobs

LOCK HAVEN The city of Lock Haven has declared a snow emergency. City Manager Gregory Wilson issued a release which said on-street parking in the downtown area will be prohibited beginning today at 3 p.m. The emergency is in preparation for a snowstorm which is expected to bring inches of snow and begin sometime this afternoon. The following streets will not be available for on-street parking until 4 p.m. Friday, Dec. 18: East Main Street from First Street to Henderson Street East Church Street from Bellefonte Avenue to North Jay Street East Water Street from North Vesper Street to North Jay Street
