Up here at Washington Hospital in freemont. Nbc bay area cheryl shurd at the hospital in freemont with us with the latest. Reporter that man is lucky. This trail is located just a twominute helicopter ride from Washington Hospital, one of the very few hospitals that have an antivenom medicine to help snakebite victims. A san jose man and his family dealing with a life and death emergency. Hiking up mission peak, they encountered a rattle snake. He was a 47yearold male from san jose who went to sit down after hiking on the peak. And he put his hand down and was bitten by a rattle snake. Reporter his family called 911. A chp pilot patrolling the area was able to locate the man. He told us by phone the bite was so severe that he had to transport the victim by air to Washington Hospital. Once we found out that the hospital had the proper medication for him they were able to easily load him if helicopter and fly him there within two minutes. Reporter it is rattle snake season.
