[ laughter ] jimmy but dont you kind of freak out when that accident happened . I kind of went football mode. I was like, oh maybe i can suck it up, and then i realized it was really missing, but it wasnt like a horror movie. It wasnt gushing or nothing. So i calmly got in the car, you know, drove myself to the hospital. Jimmy you did . But i get to a light, and im in new jersey, and people arent taking a right on the red, and im like of all time, take the damn right on the red. Jimmy im missing a pinky. Come on. Listen jimmy look at this. Look at this. I got it out the window like move, man. Jimmy Michael Strahan is giving us the pinky. What does that mean . Yeah, exactly. But then i get to the hospital, and they check it out. They look at it. The doctor says, hey, we can put it back on if you want, and i was look, okay, what does that mean . He goes, well were going to take the pinky. Its like an eight to tenhour surgery, youre in the hospital for five days. Jimmy yep. Yep. And i was like, well, you know first of all, i left the piece of the pinky at the garage. [ laughter ] i never once i did it, i went denzel. I didnt even want to look. You know how somethings bad, and youre like im not even going to look at it. Its just going to make it okay. Jimmy wait, so the pinkys just somewhere in the garage . The pinky is just hanging out in the garage man, on its own jimmy on its own. But i did have somebody go pick up the pinky for me. [ audience aws ] jimmy thats what friends are for, right . [ laughter ] that is what friends are for. I tell you right now, thats what you call love, man. Jimmy thats love. Thats what friends are for. Somebody goes, and they were like, im looking on the ground, and i didnt see it cause you have to raise the lift, and theyre like i didnt see it, and i looked up, and it was like hanging, going jimmy oh my god. Alright, so you got to the so the pinky arrived to you at the hospital and i just told the doctor like i cant five days in a a hospital, eight ten hour surgery, and i literally when they said that i started thinking about golf. Jimmy yeah. And i was sitting there, im like well it doesnt affect my grip, nah i dont need it, im good. Jimmy is that right . Yeah, i literally went like that, oh, i dont need that piece to play golf. [ laughter ] jimmy yeah. So you never got it back. So i didnt get it back on. I just said let it heal. Jimmy really . Yeah, so its fine. Jimmy yeah. I can see it. You can see it a little bit, but it doesnt look that bad. Well, it doesnt look that bad now. It looked jimmy it was rough, right . Yeah, it was rough, man. Jimmy yeah, yeah, mine too. Yeah, yeah, yeah. But i cant grab the golf club as i cant squeeze it as hard now, and my game is much better. Jimmy really . Yeah. Jimmy thats the secret. Maybe im going to be a great golfer this gives me hope. Im so excited about this. Thank you buddy. I appreciate this. Covering for gma and robin went to puerto rico and we had rob out in the florida keys trying to show the progress or what still needs to be done in all these areas that were so hard hit by the hurricane, and its amazing for the city because no one saw it coming. My buddy Justin Verlander got traded to the astros, and he wins it all. Jimmy thats right. And i was so happy for him. But, the city needed it. It was such a boost to everybody, and everybody in l. A. Was like it was one of the best series ever jimmy yeah. Ever, except for everybody is like game 7 wasnt that good. Im like, because you wanted the dodgers to win. It was great if youre an astros fan. We loved it. Jimmy yeah, if youre an astros fan, exactly. Yeah, it was awesome. Jimmy i mean i think there is an advantage to Home Field Advantage and all that stuff, so when they were in l. A. , i was like, thats tough, but they still did it and won. Yeah. Jimmy i go i think two years in a row, it just makes you feel good, which is what well get into with your documentary. Yeah. Jimmy because you do it is like a spiritual thing when all is lost, and you go ugh, im just going to watch some sports, and root for my team, and when they win, everyones rooting together, and it its like a religious experience. It makes me yeah, im exhausted before the game starts, because im stomping people out. Jimmy stomping around, theyre like do the stomp again. Youre like, dude, i have to work. I just did it, and theyre like we need it, got to have it. So, i kept doing it, and it kind of became our rallying cry. Jimmy how would you can you maybe do a you want a little piece . You dont win five super bowls, and have the greatest comeback in history for not working for it, not believing in yourself, and everybody around you. Jimmy so how did you guys hook up with this . Well, i sacked him, and i talked to him while he was on the ground. Hey tom, i got this idea. [ laughter ] we should work together. Myself, tom brady, and gotham chopra, deepaks son, is like the joining partner between us, and we have this thing, religion on sports. Its on directv, at t network, and it really bridges, like you talked earlier, about watching a team win, and the reactions that the fans have, and sports and religion are very similar in the sense that you have what people deem as gods, which could be the athletes, the players, to the parishioners who are the fans to the church could be the stadium, or the arena, and all these things have these parallels, but we went out and found very interesting stories that you dont see every day. I mean we have the Refugee Soccer Team as a safe haven for refugees overseas, and as well as a family for them when they have to leave their homeland. We have the prison baseball team, the last thing you think about is prison and baseball. Jimmy of course, prison baseball league, yeah. We have incredible stories about fencing, and other sports that a little bit out of the norm, but incredible stories, not just about some great athlete who does great at what they do, but really the heart and soul of it all. Were very proud of it. Like i said, my one time to get to be toms friend, and im enjoying it. I always played ball when i was younger, and ive been locked up for 28 years, so i kind of missed my chance at actually playing, you know, on the higher level. Obviously i didnt grow up there, but ive visited a a couple times and everything is such a mystery to me. I just i dont know how you do it. But thats why i guess you write a book. And were here to talk about it. We wrote a book. Jimmy what do you guys hang out a lot now . I mean now youre adults and grown up. Do you still see each other . We do. We live four blocks away from each other. Jimmy do you really . In new york. We do. And weve been on this book tour which has been so fun and the first hotel we checked in to, they were like, okay, we have your rooms, mrs. Bush, or miss bush mrs. Hager, and i was like, oh, no, no, we just need one key, well be staying together. Jimmy is that right . Yeah. Jimmy fullon sister hangout. Its a slumber party. It is a slumber party. You started a thing with sasha and malia obama when they came into the white house as you were leaving, just to kind of mentor them, showed them the ropes around the white house . Yeah. Jimmy i think thats such a a cool thing to do. Because no one else will have the experience its rare. But look you guys are like a a secret ramp hallway here . We were showing them this ramp that we loved to slide down when we were little. We taught them all the fun tricks of the white house. All the good hiding places. Jimmy right . So much fun. Because they were the same age barbara and i were when our grandfather became president. So we saw ourselves in them so much. Jimmy and then you have all those got to be secrets and hidden things that only little kids know that there are yes. Theres a lot of good stuff. Some of which we can tell you, and some of which we cant. [ laughter ] jimmy i just think its so cute when you see just all these photos of you guys at all these different events. This one really made me laugh. This is a film engagement up here. Oh, yeah. Yep. [ audience aws ] i was just working on my stage presence. [ laughter ] jimmy its so cool. Just kids are kids. Youve got to do what you have to do. I just love it. Uh, you decided to write this after the 2016 election. What made you want to write this . Well, mainly she woke up in bed with me, as we said before, because my husband was out of town. And i think we realized how lucky we were to have each other, that women have got to start or need to continue to have each others backs. [ cheers and applause ] and that my sissy has always been that person for me. And we celebrated sisterhood in whatever form it comes in, whether its a blood sister or friend or colleagues. I work with awesome women, that maybe we would get to the place where we feel a bit better about the state of women.
