Washington Meets Fort Madison, Demon Boys Eye SEC Crown

The second to last Southeast Conference game of the winter is tonight for the Washington basketball teams when they face off with Fort Madison for the second time this season.  The Washington girls will have their hands full with a Bloodhound squad that sits atop of the league with a 7-1 mark and 14-1 overall. The crimson and black have one of the top players in the conference in Malarie Ross, as the junior knocks down 44% of her threes and produces 21 points a game. The Demons are 2-14, 2-6 in the league, and seek a bounce back night after a 52-25 setback to Mid-Prairie on Monday. Anna Nacos registers 9.9 points a contest and Alex Murphy brings in 6.3 rebounds. These two squads met on December 22nd with the Bloodhounds capturing a 55-41 victory.

Demons Battle Bloodhounds to Close Out 2020

The first half of the season concludes tonight for the Washington basketball teams when they meet up with Fort Madison for Southeast Conference action. The Demon boys (4-1) have won both of their conference games by single digits with the latest being a 67-62 victory over Fairfield on Saturday. Going 22 of 30 from the line and out rebounding the Trojans 45-30 helped the Demons close out the nail biting victory. Kasen Bailey led the way with 20 points and Ethan Patterson had 19. Trashaun Willis added 12 and Lance Sobaski hauled in 15 rebounds. Fort Madison is 3-3 overall and 1-1 in the league after a 48-36 victory over Keokuk on Friday. Dayton Davis has been a steady force with 13.5 points and 10.2 rebounds a night. The Bloodhounds seem to be improved from a 6-16 campaign last year where the Demons swept them in a pair of games.

FMHS girls return talented players

Fort Madison High School girls basketball coach Tony Sargent likes the team he finally got to put on the court this year. The Bloodhounds took a two-week hiatus soon after practice started when the school went to all online learning. FMHS has had some close games already, including a loss to Mount Pleasant, but Sargent said his team will start putting things together soon. The Hounds went 8-14 last year and lost starters Anna Lester and Sarah Bernhardt as well as Dalyn Wondra. A solid group returns. Leading scorer Camille Kruse is back as a sophomore. She had 232 points last year. Senior Brandy Walker was the second-leading scorer with 186 last season and was also the top rebounder with 146 from the post position.
