mate, congressman paul ryan. i want to congratulate congressman ryan. i know him. i welcome him to the race. congressman ryan is a decent man. he is a family man. he is an articulate spokesman for governor romney s vision. but it s a vision that i fundamentally disagree with. cnn s athena jones is outside the rally. the president said the vision has something of the likes of fairy dust in it. reporter: it was a big 20 minute speech or so. the first public remarks we have seen from the president responding to romney s choice of congressman ryan. we don t know what he told the first fundraiser of the day which was closed to press completely. he says he likes paul ryan. they are trying to link romney to ryan s budget proposals which they say are radical and aren t good for ordinary people talking about slashing spending on programs and making changes to medicare and medicaid. he was trying to rev up the crowd as you mentioned. this was the event geared more towards young p
hit romney and his newly announced running mate aren t wasting time hitting the campaign trail. just a few hours after introducing wisconsin congressman paul ryan as his vice presidential pick, the presumptive republican ticket is making its case to voters in virginia. romney introduced paul ryan this morning as, quote, an intellecta you will leader of the republican party and a person who will help lead the country to, quote, widespread and shared prosperity and then ryan told his own story and shared his ideals. for the last 14 years i have proudly represented wisconsin in congress. there there i have focused on solving the problems that confront our country, turning ideas into action and action into solutions. i am committed in heart and mind to putting that experience to work in a romney administration. [ applause ] my dad died when with i was young. he was a good and decent man. there are few things he would say that have just always stuck with me. he d say, son, y
dad suddenly passed away and he matured quickly in a setting like that with a family that surrounded him and a community that helped him regain his footing. he began with interest in public service not because of personal ambition, but because of his passion and faith for america and a beef that america needed individuals who would put the country first and who would put the issues of america ahead of the issues of their personal concerns and so he went to washington and for 14 years, he s been battling in washington as a leader and he s found some extraordinary capacity there which is one to be an intellectual leader in the pay. he s one of those that understands how government works and how it can be tamed and how we can restore to the people of america the rights and powers of the people and how states are the places where new ideas are developed and tested and grown. he understands the constitution and he s done something that very few people in washington learn how to do
