you know, leader jeffries inte interview with you. i was catching up with him in the green room before he went on the. he said even though a lot of modern republicans say they don t wouldn t this to move forward, that impeachment is warranted or go against what mccarthy and some of the more far-right members say, they almost always vote with them and with the and with speaker mccarthy. and so i think that was interesting to hear him say and something that he is going be watching for because really the moderates in this very slim majority are going to have a huge role in this if they move forward with an impeachment inquiry. and they are the majority makers. they are the front liners. a lot are in. they are in hakeem jeffries s state. that s the capitol hill pass pekt, protection that former president donald trump has been asking house republicans to do. the actual cases itself, the timing of things, figuring out when the federal case is going to start.
more difficult. it s one thing to placate a part of the party, but when you get into the majority makers, those are not the right-wing part, and all of a sudden he has a different imperative. we keep saying moderates, but they re in battleground district to determine the control of congress. i would also just note, if one of the big potential vulnerabilities of a biden reelection effort is an enthusiasm problem, you want to know how to juice enthusiasm on the democratic side? launch an impeachment inquiry and what that will do to help rally democrats cause. we saw it in donald trump before the pandemic hit with the first impeachment. that s what you were getting at. yes, if republicans overplay their hands, that will increase democratic enthusiasm and it will backfire on the swing
to get a few steps ahead if they were to open an impeachment inquiry without going into full blown impeachment. that s because there are republicans on the right flank who want that, but there are just as many moderates who are going to have to go home to their biden districts and explain why they re focusing on this as opposed to the issues that they ran on, the people who i think of first and foremost here are the so-called majority makers in the new york districts who have districts that are more moderate. they don t necessarily want to see this red meat against the president and that s something that s going to put those members in a tough position, and it might be why you re watching mccarthy do a little bit to appease the right and a little bit to keep his mod moderates happy. it s a thankless place to be in. as he s doing that on the impeachment front he s battling a possible shutdown at the enof september. all of these are the dynamics
one santos in new york. showing him at an 8% approval rating. what do you see happening in the house? look, i think the big challenge for republicans is that a lot of their majority makers, the folks that are giving kevin mccarthy the speakership, are republicans that won in parts of the country like new york and california in districts that president biden carried by comfortable margins in the last election. so look, if you have trump at the top of the ticket hypothetically against biden and you have these blue districts in california and new york that republicans hold, it will be a challenge for republicans. you could have a scenario, bill, where republicans are favored to win the senate back but they could lose the house majority given the map and where the vulnerable seats lie. bill: given the kind of dynamic between donald trump, ron desantis, some of the other people clawing for a piece of the pie, when it comes to the
instances citing and appeasing the members of the far-right. while he is doing that he is able to maintain he is making all these secret deals with them. so he is able to maintain the wheels on the bus. but what is starting to happen, is those republicans who are in districts that biden won, these swing districts in jeopardy of losing the election. they are getting extremely frustrated and they are trying to voice their frustration and say look, we are the majority makers. you cannot continue to appease these people on the far-right. and so, there is this split happening in the party right now. in the first few months of unity that they celebrated is starting to crumble a little bit. and mccarthy has a tough job of trying to keep it together. it is only gonna get worse if they tried to fund the government. what do you think mitch
