The 63-year-old man is expected to appear in court on Wednesday.
A 63-year Mozambican national is expected to appear in the Komatipoort Magistrate s Court on Wednesday for alleged possession of drugs worth R32 million.
The man was arrested on Tuesday at the Lebombo border post.
Mpumalanga police spokesperson Brigadier Leonard Hlathi said the suspect was travelling from Mozambique to South Africa. His vehicle was stopped for processing by members from the South African Police Service and South African Revenue Service Customs during a joint routine operation.
A 63-year-old suspect is expected to appear before the Komatipoort Magistrate’s Court tomorrow, 12 May 2021, for possession of drugs. He was arrested this morning at the Lebombo Border Post.
According to information received, the suspect was travelling from Mozambique to South Africa when his vehicle was stopped for processing, by members from the South African Police Service and South African Revenue Service Customs during a joint routine operation. The two formations then thoroughly searched the vehicle, a white double cab Toyota bakkie and found about 136 kilograms of suspected heroin as well as 19 kilograms of suspected crystal meth worth a combined value of about R32 million. The drugs were found stashed underneath charcoal that was loaded at the back of the bakkie.

A 43-year-old School Governing Body chairperson in Mpumalanga has been arrested for the murder of a 22-year-old man.
This after a meeting which was held on Friday where violence erupted. Mpumalanga education spokesman Jasper Zwane said the man was allegedly stabbed to death by the suspect.
He said information at disposal of the police indicates that the meeting was held at Duvhapark Primary School at Emalahleni allegedly to address concerns by some community members. As the meeting was in progress, a scuffle broke out among attendees of the meeting resulting in the suspect allegedly stabbing another man. The victim was then taken to hospital for treatment where he later succumbed to his injuries, he said

MPUMALANGA police have nabbed a 48-year-old man for allegedly raping a blind gogo.
Police said the gogo (79) was allegedly raped at Vosman in Emalahleni on Sunday, 2 May.
The alleged rapist was swiftly arrested with the help of the community and appeared in absentia before the Emalahleni Magistrates Court on Tuesday, 4 May.
Mpumalanga police spokesman, Brigadier Leonard Hlathi said: “The suspect, regarded as a neighbour who resides a few houses away from the elderly woman’s house, went to her house, found her there alone and allegedly raped her.
“She then ran towards the street as her daughter arrived home with her male friend. Her daughter then managed to grab her and tried to find out what was going on when she realised that her mother looked terrified.”
Residents mete out mob justice on man accused of raping 79-year-old blind neighbour

Pretoria - Mpumalanga have condemned the rape of a 79-year-old blind woman allegedly by her neighbour in Vosman earlier this week.
The 48-year-old suspect has been arrested but is nursing injuries in hospital after being assaulted by community members who reacted after hearing of the incident.
Police spokesperson Brigadier Leonard Hlathi said in a statement that the man, who lives a few houses away from the elderly woman s home, allegedly went to her house, found her alone and raped her.
After the rape, the old woman allegedly ran out of the house and towards the street just as her daughter arrived home with her male friend.
