Following the appointment of the new Chief of Army Staff Major General Farouk Yahaya, sixty-eight generals will be forced to retire.
General Farouk takes over from Lt General Ibrahim Attahiru, who died in a military plane crash last Friday, May 21, alongside 10 other military officers in Kaduna.
Prior to his appointment, Farouk was the Theatre Commander of Operation Hadan Kai (formerly Lafiya Dole) in the North-East is from 37 regular course of the Nigerian Defence Academy while his predecessor, the late Attahiru was from course 35.
When Buhari appointed the present crop of service chiefs in January, no fewer than 20 generals from the three services who were members of courses 34 and 35 were retired to pave way for them.

Lieutenant General Corleto Vinluan, Jr., commander of the Western Mindanao Command (Westmincom), said the seven NPAs surrendered on Maundy Thursday, April 1, to Brigadier General Jose Maria Cuerpo, II, 103rd Infantry Brigade commander, at the unit headquarters in Kampo Ranao, Marawi City, Lanao del Sur.
Vinluan identified the surrenderers as Noli Tahadan; Ezel Peling; Marlon Talatayod; Ronald Otacan; and, Jessel Otacan who belong to the Bingo Company, Sub-Regional Committee-5 (SRC-5), North-Central Mindanao Regional Party Committee of the NPA.

The redeployed officers are expected to resume at their new posts on March 10.
The
Nigerian Army has redeployed 204 officers to new formations across the country, PREMIUM TIMES has learnt.
The redeployment, which sources said was effected on March 5, came the same day the Chief of Army Staff, Ibrahim Attahiru, was confirmed and elevated to the rank of lieutenant general.
The redeployment came a day after the Nigerian Air Force announced a similar exercise.
Out of the 204 officers redeployed, 120 are generals.
Out of the 120 generals, 68 are major generals while the other 52 are brigadier generals.
