The 1930s were characterised by astronomical unemployment, and widespread financial ruin and despair, in what came to be known as “the devil’s decade”. But in dire times, cinema provided escapism from the hardships of daily life.

Local film producers, Chris and Lyn Dockrill are generously donating the proceeds from a special screening of their film to raise funds for PCYC Kempsey and Kempsey Shire Council is proud to sponsor this event as part of their ongoing support for the vital work of the centre. The high energy musical focuses on the surreal and crazy adventures of a couple stranded on a mysterious south sea island, including its unique scientist Dr Moron who is dedicated to releasing “the beast in us all.”

Culture Recovery Fund: Norfolk arts to benefit from grants

It will get £474,900, along with another £100k specifically for Norfolk Showground Ltd, which manages the events venue to the west of Norwich. RNAA managing director Mark Nicholas said the funding would secure its future and culminate in the return of the Royal Norfolk Show in 2022. He said: The last 18 months have been extremely challenging for organisations such as ourselves and this grant will enable the RNAA and Norfolk Showground Ltd to power forward in the months ahead as we welcome visitors to Norfolk Showground. This funding will help us invest in the Showground site, deliver the roll-out of summer and autumn cultural programme and enhance our systems and process to improve our resilience in dealing with changes as a consequence of the pandemic.

With films such as James Bond No Time to Die (September 30), Cinderella (July 16), The King s Man (August 20) and The Father featuring Olivia Colman (June 11) set to be screened, movie fans have plenty to look forward to.
