With my travelling severely curtailed, I tried the time machine. I turned a few knobs and wham! I was in March 1931 at a studio in Grand Road, Bombay, that overlooked the railway tracks.
“What’s happening?” I asked a mouse that suddenly appeared by my side. He tittered, “This is a film shooting. These rooms are not soundproofed; so these guys have to wait till the trains stop running.”

East Coast Cinema has been awarded £89,373 through the Culture Recovery Fund. The cinema had reopened following the first lockdown, but were forced to close again from Boxing Day.

More than £2.8 million has been awarded to 24 cinemas in the east of England as part of a major funding boost.
Lowestoft s East Coast Cinema was one of those to be awarded the final grants from the first round of the government s Culture Recovery Fund, receiving a boost of £89,373.
The cinema, on London Road South, had previously been awarded £2,838 from the fund.

Leiston Film Theatre received received £57,509 from the grant fund and also received £9,581 in public donations.

Cinemas across East Anglia are set to benefit in just over £1million of government grant funding.
Independent cinemas in Suffolk, Norfolk and north Essex will receive £1,013,258 from the government s Culture Recovery Fund and more grants are expected to be awarded in the new year.
Among the biggest recipients in East Anglia are the Abbeygate Cinema in Bury St Edmunds which received £314,969. The Majestic Cinema in King s Lynn received £104,826, while the Century Cinema in Clacton-on-Sea received £126,458.
The Regal Cinema in Stowmarket – which is currently undergoing renovations and is showing films in the nearby John Peel Centre – received £82,595.

Independent cinemas in Lynn and Fakenham will receive over £150,000 from the government s Culture Recovery Fund this Christmas.
The Majestic Cinema and Fakenham s Central Cinema are among over 200 independent cinemas nationwide that will receive extra funding, with up to £16 million in grants available from the government s £1.57 billion Culture Recovery Fund.
Lynn s Majestic Cinema will receive £104,826, while £56,973 will go to Fakenham s Central Cinema. Tom Cundy, manager at Lynn s Majestic Cinema, said: It s going to be a big help. It s covering the cost of the PPE and the cost of everything we ve had to bring in during this time. It also means that during this quiet period, which we expect will go on for a few months, that we will be able to remain open.
