Plantation Bay staff engage in autism, sign language training

SunStar + February 10, 2021 KEEPING its promise to make the resort’s services more inclusive, 55 employees of Plantation Bay Resort and Spa (PBRS) have undergone its first autism sensitivity training hosted by the Autism Society of the Philippines (ASP). “We aim to learn more about Inclusive Tourism in 2021, which is why we kickstarted the year by attending this training. From this, we can better understand and create a resort that is more inclusive through continued design and service improvements,” said Plantation Bay general manager Cherry Allego in a statement. The autism-inclusive tourism training was held on Jan. 21, 2021. Several employees have expressed understanding and appreciation of the importance of undergoing the training.

SunStar + December 16, 2020 DAYS after drawing flak for his autism remarks, Manny Gonzalez on Tuesday, Dec. 15, 2020, resigned as resident shareholder of Plantation Bay Resort and Spa in Lapu-Lapu City. “To protect our staff from further indignities and with sincere apologies for my error of judgment which led to so much trouble to many innocent people, I have decided to resign from the position of resident shareholder,” said Gonzalez in a statement released Tuesday. Moreover, the management of Plantation Bay Resort and Spa said “it is assessing current protocols in place and has pledged to initiate more proactive efforts and implement necessary changes within the week.”
