A new affordable-housing site in downtown Ridgewood will open its doors to 16 adults with developmental disabilities by the end of the summer.
The 13,000-square-foot home has six independent living apartments and two group homes with communal kitchens, living rooms and laundry machines. It was all designed specifically for adults with special needs by Virgona & Virgona Architects, and has accessible features built in.
The planning began in 2018 for what was to be one in a series of affordable housing projects launched by the Bergen County United Way and Madeline Housing Corp. The two nonprofits have so far partnered on 34 affordable homes.
