The supplementary joint venture agreement between NTPC - the country's largest integrated energy company - and government enterprise Nuclear Power Corporation of India Ltd is for the development of six 700 MWe pressurised heavy water reactors across two sites.
Moneycontrol was the first to report about NTPC s plan to expand India s nuclear power projects. NTPC, India s largest power producer, aims to start generating 2,000 MW of nuclear energy by 2032, 4,200 MW by 2035 and eventually scale up to 20,000 MW by 2050.
NTPC expects to commission 3.5 GW of capacity by 2030 from its two nuclear plants under construction. The power generator is also in talks with American, French and Russian companies for partnership in developing small modular reactors
