While the BJP's own assessment doesn’t predict a 2017 like sweep, the inference from the exit poll could be that the Modi-Yogi administrative and Hindutva double-engine has done well on the ground for a 'BJP phir ek baar' (BJP once again) verdict.
The poll results on Thursday will decide the future of several leaders in four states where the BJP is in power and also test whether its poll pitch of a “double-engine” government made any impact there as well as in Punjab where it contested as a senior partner for the first time.
Polling will be held in 54 seats in UP's Purvanchal in the final phase on March 7. While BJP is looking to improve its prospects in this region compared to 2017, SP is trying to repeat its 2012 performance and BSP hoping to retain its vote base.
Pragatisheel Samajwadi Party chief Shivpal Yadav on Thursday said he has united with the Samajwadi Party president and his nephew Akhilesh Yadav to ensure the ouster of the BJP government in the Uttar Pradesh assembly election.
