The Madras High Court has sentenced Tamil Nadu Higher Education Minister K Ponmudi and his wife, Visalatchi to three years of simple imprisonment in a disproportionate assets case.
The prosecution case was that Ponmudy had amassed wealth to the tune of Rs 1.75 crore in his name and in the name of his wife, disproportionate to his known sources of income when he was a Minister between 2006 and 2011 in the DMK regime

While the preventive detention order was issued in 2010, Hussain’s case files went missing from the Madras High Court and were traced only in 2023, after which he was arrested by the DRI.
