When the coronavirus pandemic brought the world to a grinding halt more than a year ago, the Penn State Thespians were met with a dark stage in Schwab Auditorium.
While venues across the world are still waiting to return, the oldest continuously running club at Penn State has found a way to bring its talents back to the stage.
This semester, the Thespians are excited to present “Edges” through pre-recorded showings. The musical is a song cycle written by Benj Pasek and Justin Paul, the writers of the Broadway musical “Dear Evan Hansen.” The show as a whole does not have a consistent plot, but each song featured tells a different story. Overall, “Edges” leaves a theme of finding oneself and discovering who you are.

Area students who recently received recognition from their colleges include:
Cole Deking from Canastota was accepted into Culver-Stockton College s incoming class for the fall 2021 semester. Deking, a senior at Canastota High School, also was awarded the Hilltop Scholarship, a $10,500 per year scholarship for four years. This scholarship is awarded based upon academic credentials and is renewable provided the student remains in good academic standing.
Anna Barrett, of Cazenovia, was named to the University of Utah s fall 2020 Dean s List. Barrett was among more than 9,700 students named to the fall 2020 Dean s List at the U. To qualify, students must earn a GPA of 3.5 or higher in at least 12 graded credit hours during any one term.

GRANITEVILLE, S.C. (AP) - On a late Thursday afternoon, Dr. Tiffany Hall, principal of Leavelle McCampbell Middle School in Aiken County, delivered a golden tire to this month’s winner of the Tireless Teacher Award, an honor based on positive referrals from parents and students.
The winner, English teacher and cheer coach Allison Verhotz, was in the middle of teaching her journalism class when Hall delivered the prize. Verhotz’s students run the morning announcements, sometimes adding new features like TikTok Tuesdays to the show.
The night of Black Theatrical Ensembleâs first performance on March 8, 1976, in the University of Georgia Chapel, founder Larry Calhoun and other members of the organization gathered in a circle to pray.
âWe knew what it meant to us â but we prayed that what we had to present would mean something to our fellow students on campus,â Calhoun said.
Calhoun decided to form BTE when he was a graduate student at UGA in 1976. Six years before Calhoun founded BTE, Nawanna Lewis Miller founded the Pamoja groups: the Pamoja Singers, Pamoja Dancers and Pamoja Drama and Arts.
Although UGA had been desegregated for nine and 15 years, respectively, when Lewis Miller and Calhoun formed their organizations, Black students had few opportunities to express themselves and find community on campus. Calhoun and Lewis Miller didnât form their organizations solely out of a desire to sing, dance or act â they formed the organizations out of a need for community and belonging.
