Hagan Hord walks off Monticello for 5-4 win Friday | Stuttgart Daily Leader

(Photo courtesy of Hollee Davis) Stuttgart softball hosted Monticello on Friday night in an effort to break a two-game losing streak for the week. With the game tied at 4-4 in the bottom of the seventh, third baseman Hagan Hord laced a triple into centerfield which drove in three Ladybirds. Hord came around to score on the play following an errant throw. Four runs crossed the plate on the play, but only the first run counted, as it gave Stuttgart a 5-4 win and improved the Ladybirds’ record to 22-4.

Madison Neal (Photo courtesy of Elizabeth Skinner) Four days after clinching their fourth straight conference title, the Stuttgart Lady Ricebirds hosted class 5A White Hall in a non-conference matchup. A five-run fifth inning for the Lady Bulldogs proved to be the difference as Stuttgart lost 5-2. Stuttgart outhit White Hall 11-8 for the game, but somehow the 11 hits by the Ladybirds only produced two runs on this night. Emma Banks enjoyed a three out of four day that included a double. Madelyn Maynard and Lauren Erstine also had multi-hit performances. In addition to her work in the batter’s box, Banks tossed 7.0 innings in the circle, picking up only her third loss of the season. Banks allowed eight hits and walked none while striking out 13.

(Photo courtesy of Heather Spoon) Emma Banks tossed six innings of scoreless softball to silence the Bauxite Lady Miners’ bats en route to her 12th win of 2021. Her offense did their part as well, scoring six runs on 14 hits to give Stuttgart a 6-1 home victory. Monday night’s game was the second time Stuttgart and Bauxite played this season. The first matchup was a 6-4 win for Stuttgart on March 20. During game two of the series, the Ladybirds slowly eased away from the Lady Miners with single runs in the second and third innings before scoring two runs in both the fifth and sixth frames for the 6-1 win.

The Ladybirds needed only six innings to pick up a pair of conference wins, running their overall record to 12-1 and improving to 6-0 in 4A-5 play. Up next for the Ladybirds is a much bigger test as they travel to Southside Batesville Thursday night for a non-conference tussle with the Lady Southerners.
