After finishing second in the 200 meter sprint at the 4A state meet, Stuttgart’s Danyelle Poole competed at the Meet of Champions last Saturday at Harding University. Competing against high schoolers from all classifications in the state, Poole finished fifth overall.
While a fifth-place finish against the best runners in the state is certainly an impressive feat, Poole’s accomplishment is even more jaw-dropping as she competed this year as a freshman.
“We are expecting a lot out of Danyelle over the next three years,” said Stuttgart Ricebirds track coach Alex Holt.
Poole missed becoming a 4A state champion by a mere .01 of a second, losing to Ozark’s Anna Woolsey. Woolsey ran a 26.25 at the 4A meet while Poole ran a 26.26.

Stuttgart softball hosted Monticello on Friday night in an effort to break a two-game losing streak for the week.
With the game tied at 4-4 in the bottom of the seventh, third baseman Hagan Hord laced a triple into centerfield which drove in three Ladybirds. Hord came around to score on the play following an errant throw. Four runs crossed the plate on the play, but only the first run counted, as it gave Stuttgart a 5-4 win and improved the Ladybirds’ record to 22-4.
