Repeat offenders stealing cars in Townsville have now set their sights on a new target, Whitsunday MP Amanda Camm says.
Speaking on the Youth Justice and Other Legislation Amendment Bill before Queensland Parliament on Tuesday, Ms Camm said Townsville’s car theft spree had now reached the Whitsundays and Mackay’s northern suburbs.
“That fear (communities have about crime) is now being translated into my own community as we see these repeat offenders consistently travel from Townsville to Mackay,” the Whitsunday MP said.
“They are not happy enough stealing cars in Townsville; they now steal cars in Mackay and its Northern Beaches.

It is your chance to help bring recognition to the exceptional women of Sarina with nominations open for the Mary Malone Perpetual Award.
Mackay Deputy Mayor Karen May said they were looking for women who had positively impacted their community.
“We really want to hear about community leaders, volunteers, role models, mentors and those who simply go above and beyond for the community,” Cr May said.
“Most of them do what they do because they love it, not for the recognition, however this is the perfect opportunity to acknowledge their efforts and say thank you.”
The prestigious perpetual award, whose past awardees included Colleen Burt, Dianne Barnett and Lyn Hackett, will be presented at the Sarina Women’s Week Awards.
