Northern Kentucky health leader says she s stepping down

By 700 WLW News (Florence, KY) - She says it s time for new leadership and fresh perspectives. Dr. Lynne Saddler plans to step down as leader of the Northern Kentucky Independent District Health Department. Dr. Saddler will finish off this year but then she s out, saying it s been an honor to serve for the past decade. Northern Kentucky is in a much better position in the pandemic as vaccinations increase, says Dr. Saddler, and now there will be the proper amount of time to search for her replacement. x

Cory Sharber / WVXU The head of the Northern Kentucky Independent District Health Department is stepping down. Lynne Saddler, MD, is leaving her position effective Dec. 31. In a release, Saddler said this is a a good time for the agency to transition to new leadership. NKY is in a much better point in the pandemic now, as COVID-19 vaccinations continue to increase, and the agency can start planning for the future with new leadership and fresh perspectives, Saddler said. Saddler has worked for NKY Health since September 2010. A special meeting will take place on April 14 at 6 p.m. to discuss the search process for the position. That includes designating a search committee and selecting an interim director effective July 1. It will be streamed on the NKY Health Facebook page.

Ky Gov Andy Beshear Visits COVID-19 Vaccination Site In Covington

Cory Sharber / WVXU Kentucky Gov. Andy Beshear visited the state’s regional COVID-19 vaccination site in Covington, located inside the Northern Kentucky Convention Center. The site is prioritizing Kentuckians 70 and older. Phase 1A and 1B individuals are encouraged to sign up for appointments as well. In a little over a week since the vaccine site opened, more than 2,400 vaccines have been administered. Roughly 600 vaccines are being administered a day, and the facility could eventually administer 3,000 daily. Beshear said everyone is thrilled at the opportunity to “see past what has consumed us these past 11 months.” However, his main concern going forward is the supply of vaccines.

At least three COVID-19 virus variants have made their way to Ohio and Kentucky in recent weeks. Two Kenton County residents contracted the United Kingdom B.1.1.7 variant. Scientists at the Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center and College of Medicine found two other variants, one of which is now referred to as the Columbus strain.  Earlier this week, officials at University Hospitals in Northeast Ohio found the U.K. variant in patients there.
