The Georgetown County School District will consider joining a class action lawsuit in which school districts across the nation have argued that social media companies are acting as a public nuisance by affecting the mental health of their students.The lawsuit has already gained plaintiffs in South Carolina, including the 17,000-student York County School District 4, which serves Fort Mill. Four social media companies are listed as defendants: Snapchat; ByteDance, the developer of TikTok; Meta, owner of Facebook and Instagram; and Google, which acquired YouTube in 2006.
