Aaron Hughes joins Wylie to put WU19s through their paces Alfie Wylie’s Under-19 side started preparations for their own Women’s Euro qualifiers later this year with a training camp. Former Northern Ireland captain Aaron Hughes, who is the Irish FA’s new Elite Football Development Consultant, joined Wylie and his backroom team, including Noel Mitchell and Lynn Carroll, at the five-day camp. A new format has been introduced for WU19 and WU17 Euro qualifiers which replaces the old qualifying and elite rounds.  The competition still features one-venue mini-tournaments but now includes two leagues (A and B) with promotion and relegation leading to the 2022 finals.

GIRLS HOOPS: Kaitlyn Flanagan helps PW return to form in win over Souderton

WHITEMARSH Plymouth Whitemarsh won its first 13 games of the season by an average of 27.9 points. Junior Kaitlyn Flanagan suffered a hamstring injury before the final three games of the regular season, which were wins by three and five points sandwiched around a three-point loss. After two full weeks of rest, Flanagan returned to the court Wednesday night for the second round of the District 1-6A playoffs. Her stats weren’t flashy – no points, three assists, one rebound and one block – but the point guard’s presence on the floor helped the No. 2 Colonials return to form in a 45-18 win over No. 18 Souderton at Plymouth Whitemarsh High School.

Souderton s second-half rally spoils North Penn s opener – PA Prep Live

January 20, 2021 TOWAMENCIN There was no hesitation from Jordan Zimmerman when she caught the ball behind the arc as time wound down in the third quarter. The Souderton senior had only made one shot in the game to that point but instead of worrying about past misses, she was focused on making this next one. Her shot was on the mark, tying a game the Indians had trailed almost from the start and a few minutes later, Zimmerman made the assist on the go-ahead layup. Strong defense and a resilient mentality across the board helped Souderton rally and top North Penn 49-41 on the road Tuesday, spoiling the Knights’ season opener.

Harter s heroics lift Souderton past CB South in OT – PA Prep Live

January 13, 2021 Souderton s Casey Harter (12) is guarded by Central Bucks South s Brooke Edwards during their game on Tuesday, Jan. 12, 2021. (Andrew Robinson/MediaNews Group) WARRINGTON Casey Harter’s legs felt like they wanted to give out under her, but she had enough for one last burst to the hoop. Trailing by a point and fighting cramps in both legs and one foot, Harter ambled back on the floor late in overtime, waited for the right moment then surged down the lane for a layup. After a final look by CB South didn’t go at the buzzer, Harter and her teammates could enjoy a hard-earned season opening win.
