District 2 Town Councilor Lynda Aiman-Smith wants Silver Citians to remember that they must don face coverings to protect themselves and others from COVID-19 while they’re inside public spaces or face a fine and that includes the post office in Silver City.
During the April 27 regular meeting of the Silver City Town Council, Aiman-Smith asked Police Chief Fred Portillo to reach out to the post office on Hudson Street, where she said there has been a dearth of mask-wearing among postal customers of late.
Per the minutes of that meeting, Aiman-Smith had indicated that one of her constituents “had a disappointing experience of being in our post office, which I know is a federal building, where about half of the people were unmasked. Fire Chief Milo Lambert announced the implementation of Stage 1 fire restrictions at Tuesday evening’s regular meeting of the Silver City Town Council: “Effective immediately.”
“We have moved into an extreme drought condition, [and] with our local winds and the amount of dry grass and timber in our area and in consultation with Town Manager [Alex] Brown we have decide to enact Stage 1 fire restrictions for the town of Silver City,” Lambert said, adding that the last time such restrictions were imposed was on April 16, 2019.
“I’ve been meeting with the Forest Service. They enacted fire restrictions across the entirety of the Gila” that went into effect Tuesday, Lambert continued. “Ours will go into effect immediately.”
