The main opposition Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) senior members on Sunday invaded Karonga northwest constituency where the party’s spokesperson of Finance in Parliament Joseph Mwanamvekha joined treasurer general Jappie Mhango drumming up support for their candidate, Lusubilo Kamwambi.

They held meetings in different areas in the constituency.
Mwanamveka said Kamwambi was the only potential candidate in the area who will continue with development work his brother, James Bond Kamwambi left before he succumbed to Covid -19 in February.
He used the rally to discredit the Tonse Alliance government, saying they have failed to deliver their manifestos during the nine months it has been in government.

In a sudden twist of events, the UTM Party regional treasurer (N) Lusubilo Kamwambi, young brother to the fallen Member of Parliament for Karonga Northwest constituency James Kamwambi has dumped the party and swiftly defected to the Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) in readiness for the forthcoming by-election slated for March 30, 2021.

In his resignation letter addressed to the partys regional governor Dr. Moses Malunga, Kamwambi cites lack of intraparty democracy in the party, citing barring of aspiring candidates to contest at a primary elections to elect the partys torch bearer on March 30 during the pending by-elections.

Karonga north west legislator James Bong Kamwambi who died of Covid-19 has been laid to rest when there is heated debate on whether parliamentarians should meet physically or virtually following the surge in the virus infections.

Kamwambi is the fourth member of parliament to die of Covid-19.
The body of Kamwambi, who until his death was Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) Member of Parliament for Karonga North West Constituency ,has since been laid to rest in his home village Mwafilaso in Traditional Authority Kyungu in the district.
Lusubilo Kamwambi a brother to late Kamwambi said the death of his brother is a big blow to the family saying, “we have lost a pillar in our family.”
