Mizoram Election Results 2023: In a stunning success reminiscent of the Aam Aadmi Party, the Zoram Peoples Movement, which was not even recognised when it fought the 2018 elections, has routed Mizoram’s traditional parties – MNF and Congress. MNF’s bet on Mizo nationalism failed and it was laid low by poor developmental outcomes and ZPM’s promise of change and good governance
The MNF has a vote bank of around 30 per cent in Mizoram. Though ZPM, which got around 22 per cent votes in the last election, is an emerging party, the votes of Congress are likely to play a crucial role in deciding the next government
The ruling Mizo National Front (MNF) led by Zoramthanga is seeking a second term in the upcoming assembly polls in Mizoram. The emergence of the Zoram People s Movement (ZPM) has posed a challenge to the traditional binary equation between the MNF and the Congress. Analysts believe that the MNF may have an advantage due to its handling of the refugee issue and the rising tide of Zo sub-nationalism.
