An Erie Township Police officer pulled over a wrong-way driver Saturday in the southbound lanes of I-75; and was praised for his quick thinking during the emergency.
Monroe County Central Dispatch got the call around 12:20 p.m., with a report that a white vehicle was driving northbound in the southbound lanes near the Ohio-Michigan state line, according to the news release.
Erie Township Officer Derwoed got on southbound I-75 from Exit 2; and saw the vehicle traveling in the wrong direction along the left shoulder of the expressway. He turned on lights and sirens as he turned around to catch up to the vehicle; the driver failed to stop so the police officer then pulled in front of the vehicle. He was able to direct the driver to slow down to a stop just north of Luna Pier Road, at which time a Luna Pier Police Department officer arrived to assist.
