Closure of business transactions at the Lehra Toll plaza on Ludhiana-Malerkotla Road on Sunday night, brought cheers to residents of the area as they are no longer need to adopt alternate routes to avoid the toll.

Ludhiana: A major tragedy was averted at Gill village after an LPG-laden tanker rolled over on Ludhiana-Malerkotla Road on Saturday night. Villages switched off lights of their houses after they came to know about the accident.
A villager said the accident took place around 10.30pm and there was no loss to human life as the tanker didn’t collide with any other vehicle. The villager said they didn’t evacuate the village, but switched off lights, fearing electricity could increase risk of fire.
Tanker driver, Jatinder Kumar of Uttar Pradesh, said the gas was coming from Loni in Ghaziabad and he was to deliver it at a company’s plant in Ludhiana. He said around 10.30pm, when he reached near Gill village, he saw a combine harvester parked on the road and while trying to avoid it, his vehicle climbed on footpath and then rolled over.
