What started as a good year for the Amathole District Municipality, having finally appointed Dr Bhekisisa Mthembu as its new municipal manager, quickly went south over the appointment of the district’s second most senior official, the chief financial officer.
New Amathole District Municipality municipal manager Dr Bhekisisa Mthembu has a daunting task of turning around the troubled authority which faces serious challenges including vacant senior managerial posts.
The Amathole District Municipality has finally approved the appointment of a new municipal manager after almost a year without one. During a closed session of a special council meeting of the municipality, councillors chose Dr Bhekisisa Mthembu, the current municipal manager of the Intsika Yethu Municipality in the Chris Hani District Municipality, to take over as the new boss at ADM.
The Amathole District Municipality has agreed to part ways with its under-fire CFO Lucky Mosala. This comes after a behind-closed-doors session of the council meeting agreed to a separation agreement that will see the municipality pay out Mosala for three months. His contract with the municipality was due to come to an end in June.
