What started as a good year for the Amathole District Municipality, having finally appointed Dr Bhekisisa Mthembu as its new municipal manager, quickly went south over the appointment of the district’s second most senior official, the chief financial officer.
Amathole district municipality mayor Anele Ntsangani has distanced himself from the debacle that landed the municipality in court over the controversial appointment of its CFO.
Eastern Cape co-operative governance and traditional affairs MEC Zolile Williams has been dragged into the Amathole district municipality’s fight with its incoming chief financial officer, Lubabalo Manjingolo. Williams became involved with the case on Wednesday when a court ruled in favour of the ADM stance that he should have been cited on the matter as he had declined to concur with Manjingolo’s appointment in the position due to alleged non-disclosure of a pending criminal case.
