Following a year with very few gatherings, local celebrations of freedom and fireworks this Fourth of July are aiming to bring the community back together.
There are several opportunities to see fireworks coming up, both in the High Desert and surrounding mountain communities. In addition, some of the events are welcoming families to enjoy games, activities, food vendors and more to celebrate Independence Day.

The biggest heart : Longtime Lucerne Valley resident Pamela Hart remembered

Pamela Hart, a longtime Lucerne Valley Roadrunners member known in the community for her kind and generous nature, died Wednesday at Barstow Community Hospital.
Her family said she was taken to the hospital Monday. There, she was diagnosed with COVID-19 and pneumonia, later suffering cardiac arrest. She was 70.
Hart was the current president of the Lucerne Valley Roadrunners, a charitable organization that stages several annual events, including a Halloween tailgate and Easter egg hunt.
The group s long-standing Christmas gift giveaway has brought presents to hundreds of local children every year, according to previous Daily Press reports.
