Italyâs new Prime Minister Mario Draghi has been hailed as the nonpartisan expert the country needs to get its house in order. But who is Draghi? A closer look at his career reveals the tangled history of post-Keynesian economic thought and European neoliberalism that inform the prime ministerâs technocratic brand.
Draghi was born and raised in Rome, the child of a banker and a pharmacist. In 1970, he received his undergraduate degree from Romeâs La Sapienza, under the supervision of star economist and public intellectual Federico Caffè. The former President of the European Central Bank, Mario Draghi, has been sworn-in as Italy s next Prime Minister. Mr Draghi, a prominent economist, accepted the top role on Friday and later that day read out a list of ministerial picks designed to create consensus among political parties. His new administration, consisting of a mix of technocrats and politicians, are now set to take office on Tuesday after a vote from both houses of the Italian Parliament.

Former Prime Minister of Greece Lucas Papademos along with two other people were wounded by an explosive device hidden in an envelope, according to police.
The 69-year-old was rushed to hospital following the blast inside a car in central Athens on Thursday. A government spokesman claimed that the explosion was an attack and said all three who had been hurt - including Mr Papademos - were in a stable condition, conscious and are undergoing all the necessary medical tests .
