First Lubbock s Pancake Festival is canceled, and now there s no Free Pancake Day at IHOP. Why do pancakes, and the people who love them, have to suffer so much lately?
In years past, both events raised money for very worthy causes. The Pancake Festival raised money for our Lubbock s Lions Club, which uses those funds for a diverse array of programs like providing eyeglasses to the needy and supporting scout troupes. IHOP s Free Pancake Day also raised funds for charities local to the IHOP from whence the funds were raised. If I m remembering correctly, the last Free Pancake Day went to Children s Miracle Network, which purchases equipment for children s hospitals.

Lions going virtual for pancake festival this year By Julie Castaneda | January 29, 2021 at 6:15 PM CST - Updated January 30 at 11:39 AM
LUBBOCK, Texas (KCBD) - The 69th annual Pancake Festival is going to be a bit different this year, due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
This year, the Lubbock Lions Club is hosting a Virtual Pancake Festival on Feb. 20 from 7 a.m. to 8 p.m.
What started as a pancake dinner in the cafeteria of Lubbock High School almost 70 years ago has evolved into the largest pancake festival in the world. But this year, the Lubbock Lions Club is taking the fundraiser online.
The coronavirus pandemic has forced many activities, fundraisers and annual events to go virtual since 2020, and that s continuing this year with the Lubbock Lions Club Pancake Festival.
The Lubbock Lions Club announced this past week that the 69th Annual Pancake Festival will be a virtual event called Pancakes@Home, which will be held on Saturday, February 20th, 2021.
If you ve ever been to the Pancake Festival, you probably saw this one coming. It s a huge event and typically there s not much social distancing going on. There just isn t enough room when thousands attend such an event.
Instead of gathering at the Lubbock Memorial Civic Center, this year s Pancake Festival will be held through social media. The event will be hosted through a Facebook event page where you can show off your own homemade pancakes.
