Taipei, June 28 (CNA) The Central Weather Bureau (CWB) forecast hot weather nationwide Tuesday, with some parts of Taiwan likely to see highs above 36 degrees Celsius, along with two tropical disturbances in waters near the Philippines that could develop into tropical depressions.

Three to four tropical storms or typhoons are expected to hit Taiwan this year due to a weak La Nina effect in the northwest Pacific Ocean, the Central Weather Bureau (CWB) said yesterday, as typhoon season begins next month.
Taiwan’s typhoon season generally lasts from July to September, with most typhoons occurring in August.
Weather Forecast Center Director Lu Kuo-chen (呂國臣) told a news conference that a weakening La Nina is expected to have less of an effect on Taiwan.

Taiwan received only 78.5 hours of sunshine last month, about half the average for May, due to the frequent arrival of rain fronts during the plum rain season, the Central Weather Bureau told a news conference yesterday.
It was also the lowest number of sunshine hours the bureau has recorded for May, bureau Weather Forecast Center Director Lu Kuo-chen (呂國臣) said.
The plum rain season this year began around the middle of last month after the summer monsoon started affecting the South China Sea, Lu said.
