JOLIET, IL In less than two weeks, a high-profile Joliet murder trial will get underway, the first at the new Will County Courthouse.

Gleason wanted to fire Bretz as his counsel more than a year ago, a motion that was rejected by Will County Circuit Judge Daniel Rippy.

34 Shot, 8 Murdered in Chicago Over the Weekend
Thirty-four people were shot and eight were murdered, according to statistics from the Chicago Police Department.
The incidents took place between 6 p.m. on April 2 and 11:59 p.m. on April 4. Two additional shootings took place on Friday afternoon.
The violence started at approximately 2:18 p.m. when a 19-year-old man was shot in the 5000 block of West Monroe. He was taken to a hospital and was last reported in good condition. No suspect was in custody.
Another shooting occurred less than an hour later in the 4000 block of West Potomac. A male victim of unknown age “heard shots and felt pain.” He was treated for a gunshot wound to the foot. No suspects were in custody.

Homan Square man charged with fatal shooting in Austin

Calvin Jones, of Homan Square, has been charged with a felony count of first-degree murder, Chicago police said.
Officers found the 37-year-old laying on the ground about 12:20 a.m. Feb. 14 in the 5900 block of West Bloomingdale Avenue, with a gunshot wound to the chest, police said.
He was brought to Loyola Hospital and pronounced dead at 1:37 a.m., according to police.
