At least seven people were shot to death in Chicago on Easter Sunday in separate attacks across the city, according to Chicago police.
In the most recent fatal shooting, officers were dispatched to the 6800 block of South Throop Street in Englewood about 11:20 p.m., according to an online statement from Chicago police. There, a 45-year-old man was found lying on the ground with multiple gunshot wounds to his chest, officials said.
The manâs injuries were so critical that he wasnât able to provide police with an account of what happened, the statement says. He was taken to the University of Chicago Hospital, where he was pronounced dead, according to the medical examinerâs office.
34 Shot, 8 Murdered in Chicago Over the Weekend
Thirty-four people were shot and eight were murdered, according to statistics from the Chicago Police Department.
The incidents took place between 6 p.m. on April 2 and 11:59 p.m. on April 4. Two additional shootings took place on Friday afternoon.
The violence started at approximately 2:18 p.m. when a 19-year-old man was shot in the 5000 block of West Monroe. He was taken to a hospital and was last reported in good condition. No suspect was in custody.
Another shooting occurred less than an hour later in the 4000 block of West Potomac. A male victim of unknown age “heard shots and felt pain.” He was treated for a gunshot wound to the foot. No suspects were in custody.
