LAKELAND – Lakeland artist Kate Hall has finished the Crape Blossoms mural on the south side of Low Country Vintage, an antiques store at 913 S. Florida Ave. in Lakeland. It is the first public artwork to be completed as part of the Lakeland Community Redevelopment Agency s Art Infusion Program for the Dixieland corridor. I m happy to have it done, Hall told The Ledger. I ve already had some other businesses ask me about working with them, and it s getting people excited about art.
Hall had approached Allyson Barr, the owner of Low Country Vintage, about doing the roughly 100-foot by 25-foot mural on the side of the former home to Lundy s Bakery, purchased by Publix Supermarkets founder George Jenkins in 1950 to supply the chain s baked goods.
LAKELAND – Lakeland Community Redevelopment Agency is hoping it can inspire businesses and artists alike to show their love for the South Florida Avenue corridor this month.
The Lakeland CRA will launch an Art Infusion Grant Program starting Feb. 15 to help bring new life and color to Dixieland and downtown Lakeland. It will fund approximately a half million dollars in improvements to facades, awnings and murals.
CRA Manager Alis Drumgo said the Dixieland segment of South Florida Avenue has been undergoing major redevelopment with new businesses, including Born and Bread, Patriot Coffee and Union Hall. With the South Florida Avenue road diet now in place, there is larger space for sidewalks, making it safer for pedestrians. Now, Drumgo hopes to the grant program will infuse life.

Kate Hall, 40, has launched a Kickstarter campaign to raise $16,300 to fund a mural on the side of Low Country Vintage, an antiques store at 913 S. Florida Ave. in Lakeland. If funded by Jan. 30, Hall will paint the southern exterior wall of the building in a bold flower design she s titled Crape Blossoms. I ve really wanted to bring art to this area, she said. This area is really starting to embrace the public arts and outdoor murals.
Hall said she s been an artist for nearly 28 years selling custom individual art pieces to large-scale public murals, primarily in coastal tourist areas such as Mount Dora and Anna Maria Island. She s created artwork in Bartow, but has yet to paint her mark in Lakeland.
