Holly Cole was Born in Halifax in 1963. Her unique style, and ability to interpret a variety of song types have made her a standout and respected artist in Jazz circles. She founded the Holly Cole Trio with bassist David Piltch and pianist Aaron Davis in 1986. They were offered a recording contract a few years later, and released a jazz/Christmas EP, followed by their first full album; “Girl Talk”.
Holly has never shied away from performing and recording songs by an eclectic array of artists. From Cole Porter and Irving Berlin to Tom Waits, Captain Beefheart and even the Sherman Brothers (Of Disney fame). She continues to perform, though in these days it’s virtual live performances, and has just released a new album: “Holly Cole – Montreal” Recorded Live at The Lion D’or. We feature this new album all week long.
Born on the Isle of Mann, and raised in Manchester, the Gibb Brothers, Barry. Robin and Maurice, took to music quickly. They performed as a skiffle group called The Rattle Snakes, before their family emigrated to Queensland Australia in the late 50’s. It was in Australia they would finally gain success as a recording act.
The name they were most famous for, was not BG as in Brothers Gibb as often assumed, but was BG, as in the initials of Barry Gibb, Race Car Driver and Track Promoter Bill Goode, and DJ/presenter Bill Gates who got them a gig at a local race track. Eventually BGs became Bee Gees. They released a number of singles, had numerous TV appearances, and scored their first #1 with “Spicks and Specks” in 1964. The group wrote all their own hits, and Barry also wrote a significant number of songs for other artists in Australia, and eventually around the world.
She was one of the voices that defined music in the 1970’s and continues t5o be enjoyed all these years later. Carly Simon is the artist of the week.
Carly was born In The Bronx in 1945, Her mother a civil rights activist, and her father, a co-founder of publisher Simon and Schuster, as well as a classical pianist. A childhood trauma led to Carley developing a stammer, which she managed to control by singing. She wrote and sang songs for much of her life, even performing with her sister Lucy, as The Simon Sisters in the mid 60’s.
Real success came later though when Carly released her debut solo album in 1971, “Carly Simon”, and scored a Grammy win for best new artist and a best female vocal nomination. It also contained her first top 10 hit: “That’s The Way I Always Hear It Should Be”. She continued to enjoy success through the 70’s as one of it’s brightest stars, and released albums well into the 2000’s including an album of pop standards. Along with nume

A brother band that actually has brothers in it! The Cooper Brothers: Southern rock from the north! In the early 70’s Brian and Dick Cooper, along with their friend Terry King, put together a band that embraced the southern rock sound of bands like Lynryd Skynrd and the Allman Brothers. Les Emmerson of the Five Man Electrical Band produced their first album, which was a comfortable, and welcome blend of rock and country music that was popular at the time, and scored them their first regional hits.
International fame followed a few years later when “The Dream Never Dies”, “Show Some Emotion” and “I’ll Know Her When I See Her”, all charted on the Billboard Hot 100. The Cooper Brothers continued to perform and record over the years, releasing an album just a few years back in 2017.

Josh Groban first sang in public when he was in the seventh grade, when he sang a solo of “S’wonderful” at the school’s cabaret night, where he sang alone on stage for the first time. He was however more interested in acting, and attended the Los Angeles County High School for the Arts as a theater major. In 1999 he briefly attended Carnegie Mellon University, to study musical theater, but was offered a recording contract and left college to pursue a singing career.
