The chp did close down the exit ramp about 7 30 tonight. Thats when the chp vehicle pulled off, and burst into flames right on the exit ramp. Chp officers say they dont know what caused the chp vehicle to catch on fire. They say the officer had been traveling east on the bay bridge out of San Francisco when he noticed smoke inside the car back by the trunk. He smelt smoke coming from his vehicle. He pulled off at the Treasure Island exit. Reporter Officials Say a second chp officer responded to help and was injured when the back of the vehicle exploded. There was an explosion coming from the trunk. Some of the debris came and hit one of the officers in the arm and the chest. Reporter the Police Lights and the flames were bright enough to be seen from traffic cameras. The exit to Treasure Island was closed. The chp says officers normally do carry a lot of equipment in the trunk. We normally have flares, electronic equipment, our modems, our radios. Sometimes the officers put their duty

a tragic accident for nato forces training in spain. ten people were killed when an f-16 fighter jet crashed on takeoff and slammed in to over other planes on the ground. eight of the dead were french and two from greece. 21 were injured some suffering severe burns and a number of military jets and helicopters were damaged. we re now hearing from the pilot who ditched his plane in dramatic fashion after running out of fuel over the pacific ocean. we showed you this incredible video captured by the coast guard. the single engine plane nose diving 250 feet from hawaii. the pilot, lou morton, deploying his parachute system just in time leveling off the plane and softening the water landing and this morning grateful to everyone who came to his rescue. coordination with san francisco air and with the coast guard and holland america has been more than impressive. reporter: the pilot was able to climb in to his life raft after hitting the water the coast guard arranged for him to be res
