introduction for her to sort of ride his coattails into these places. but then she made a very good speech herself in these places we saw and reported on. her argument is, working-class people are working-class people, wherever they are. whether they re in the bronx or whether they re in vermont or whether they re in kansas. and that some of these issues really are all agreed upon for people who are struggling economically. she and senator sanders, you know, with their very big government sort of approach to solving a lot of problems, has a lot of resonance for folks everywhere. doesn t matter where you live. we don t know whether that s going to be the case. i just want to ask you about the trickiness of the position she s in right now. she won the primary, faces the general election and is being thrust on to this national stage. does that always work out when somebody is sort of not swept up from obscurity, but is new to the game, still has this local race to win and now is becomin
limits you make the demand in these new rules anything passed domestically has to be paid for, but a lot of exemptions from that including tax cuts, including health care repeal, because the cbo, at least, says it would save $140 billion. isn t there, trying to have it both ways? interesting about that, andrea. when cbo gives you that figure it s because obama care was based on ten years revenue and six years expenditures. i was a small business owner, on business boards, you don t do accounting that way. one of the changes we did in the rules, say you can t push the high cost issues out into the next dak kade or the decade after to get around the rules. we do something similar to what the senate s doing a 40-year look. if you live mandatory spending, more than $5 billion, i think in any of those decades looking forward, then there s a point of order available on the house. our whole effort here is to put the taxpayer in charge, not the big spenders. and the rules in the house and
there is no predictability and what we re going to be doing because we keep changing the rules on them, and the other thing that is, that confidence that we re heading in the right direction. i think that s got to be what we start focusing on. how big a factor is the tea party? you ve got a huge new class. 60 member new class of republicans. how important is the tea party as a factor in what you do? well, it certainly is a factor, but let me make a little distinction. there s the tea party itself and then tea party-minded people. a lot of people who are maybe not out in a rally waving a flag, don t try it on me flag, but they re concerned about the debt that s being, you know, amassed and the direction we re going. so i think we ve got to be dealing with both sides of that as we re moving forward and, again, i think that goes back to soft the confidence. people don t have a confidence that the the government, whether it s it s local, state or federal government is really
i wanted to ask you about the prime issue, clearly. you come from michigan. 12.4% unemployment. you ve got to be worried about jobs. what can you say to the people who elected you about anything, any road map to coming up with a jobs plan for michigan, for the country? yeah. well, first of all, it s the private sector that creates prosperity. not the public sector. we have to be focused making sure the private sector can go out and create those jobs. we re stating to see some of that in i think the washington post today that there was talk about the amount of cash being built up in companies, and what they re doing with that, and they unfortunately just don t feel secure enough to start investing in and whether it s in people or in equipment, and those types of thing ps we have to create an atmosphere. that s really the job of the government, to help create an atmosphere that s going to allow that private sector job creation to happen. and a lot of that is predictability and conf
