Jefferson County School District 509-J Board incumbent Jamie Hurd faces Warm Springs resident Lorien Stacona for position 2 in the May 18 special district election. I cherish our community and want to see it continue to grow in a positive way, Hurd said. I m dedicated to our school district, and I am passionate about helping our students thrive. Hurd has served on the school board for nearly four years. She and her husband, Jeff, have three children. At one time, she worked as a wildlife biologist for the Confederated Tribes of Warm Springs. She has served the community as a Madras Aquatic Center Recreation District Board member and has volunteered to support several organizations such as Every Child Matters, Kindred Connections, Department of Human Services, Faith Based Network, Madras Sister City Association,
Cascades East Transit to resume Saturday service May 1, remain fareless
Bend Dial-A-Ride also to be available on weekends
BEND, Ore. (KTVZ) Starting May 1, Cascades East Transit will return to providing Saturday services for Bend Fixed Routes and major Community Connector Routes across Central Oregon, the agency announced Friday.
Also, Bend Dial-A-Ride will operate on both Saturdays and Sundays, starting on May 1. Each of those public transportation services is currently fareless.
CET and Commute Options will host outdoor social-distance tabling events on Saturday, May 1 from 12 to 2 pm at Hawthorne Station in Bend (334 NE Hawthorne Ave.) and at the Redmond Transit Hub (777 SW Kalama Ave.) from 2 to 4 pm to provide free schedules, route maps, public health and safety information, face masks, hand sanitizer, and LED safety lights to riders.

The Madras-Jefferson County Chamber of Commerce facilitated the April 8 forum for the four candidates who are vying for two of the open school board positions during the May 18 special district election.
