the number two on the senate judiciary committee oren hatch tells us, kavanaugh is going to be confirmed. senate majority leader mitch mcconnell says the same thing. do you think anyone is going into this potentially explosive hearing on thursday with an open mind? no. probably not the people sitting on the commit. there are two people we ought to look at, which is susan collins and lisa murkowski. they may be going into it with an open myself. susan collins said earlier she would be glued to the television set, ms. murkowski said she wanted the hear from the second woman. they re key votes. hatch and mcconnell are optimistic but it comes down to these women and what they decide. they will be listening. are people on the committee going to change their minds? i doubt it, not at all. but i do believe that the testimony will be very important for the people actually who do have open minds about this.
i i don t trust the senator who do this professionally. it s their job. it is their job. they also have the ability to surrender those questions over to someone who has expertise in this area. what i do wonder, will the democrats will able to resist the temptation to go overboard on brett kavanagh s sexual history. here s the problem too, is that okay, before we left the last segment, we talked about how there was an fbi investigation because george h.w. bush asked for one in 1991. and now we re here in 2018 and we re not even getting that. we have oren hatch who has said oh, she s probably just mixed up. i have no problem with the fbi investigators asking her the same question. of course they re going to deny, nothing out of the ordinary happened to them that night, so they re going to deny it. they re denying they were at
belittled, told that they were mistaken, bullied and shamed for these experiences. that s been our typical approach to them. right. which is something we need to change. and one of the accusations often made is that they re confused. it didn t happen the way they thought or maybe it was someone else, which is something new again we are hearing this week from some supporters of brett kavanaugh. oren hatch suggested it and kellyanne conway said as much overnight to cnn that maybe it is someone else that professor blasey is thinking about. she says no. that s wishful thinking on their part. well, yeah. i mean, they weren t strangers. it s not somebody that she just passed by on the street. this is someone who was in our social circle. and while she didn t know him
up here because oren hatch told cnn, senator oren hatch that he said to that brett kavanaugh said to oren hatch that he wasn t at the party and that, quote, somebody is mixed up. he did use the words mixed up. i would describe him as resolute, determined, unequivocal. he said it s just not true. he wasn t angry, and he didn t say anything bad about dr. ford. he wasn t critical. look, it s just not true. and i m i think that s what he s going to say when we have the hearing monday. don t give up on the hearingment don . don t give up on the hearing. let s keep up the conversation because events are changing. we ll bring you back on if we have a new development because we d love to get your thoughts. thank you, senator kennedy.
senates, and you can take that as republicans have he says it didn t happen, or you can take it as he doesn t want to testify under oath. and that s significant. patrick smith, from your reporting, i have no knowledge of the party in question, nor do i have any knowledge of the allegations she has leveled against brett kavanagh, that s a statement, but a statement issued to the media is different than a statement given under oath. why wouldn t the committee want to call in all the other parties, and just get them on the record, under oath, which would help clear judge kavanagh if he s telling the truth. the accusers attorneys said that they don t think they would do a compare investigation if it was the senate committee that was investigating it. and we kind of saw a little bit of that from oren hatch yesterday when he said he wouldn t even ask christine ford a question if she shows up on
