It has now been a month since the shooting attempted murder which left a 15-year-old minor injured. It took place on Sunday, November 15, 2020 in Ladyville while the victim was in the company of 33-year-old Shane Bahadur, a well-known figure to law enforcement. Charged for this incident is 20-year-old Joshua Martels of Lord’s Bank, Ladyville who appeared unrepresented before Magistrate Stephanie Gillett. He was read the charge of attempted murder but due to the nature of the charge, no plea was taken and bail could not be offered. Magistrate Gillett explained that because it is an indictable offense, he would have to apply for bail at the Supreme Court. Until then, he is on remand at the Belize Central Prison. If he is not granted bail at the Supreme Court, he will be remanded until February 8, 2020.

To answer to a number of charges, he appeared before Magistrate Stephanie Gillett and pleaded guilty to resisting arrest, using obscene language in the presence of a police officer, and assault of a police officer. According to police, on Wednesday, December 2, they were passing a shop in Lord’s Bank when they saw someone not wearing their mask. That person was approached by the officers and that is when O’Brien intervened.
