The Lorain Academic Distress Commission welcomed Cel Rivera, Lorainâs retired police chief, to the panel to replace Diane Xander.
On Dec. 14, the Lorain Academic Distress Commission held a joint meeting with the Lorain City Schools Board of Education.
Much of the meeting dealt with a closed-door executive session for the Commission and school board members to discuss public employees and employment issues. Based on comments afterward, that closed-door session generally dealt with the job performance evaluation of CEO/Superintendent Jeff Graham.

COVID-19 return
Graham asked the commission and school board to postpone consideration of at least two presentations about the plans for the return of students despite the novel coronavirus pandemic, and the districtâs five-year financial forecast.
Former Lorain police Chief Cel Rivera will become the newest member of the Lorain Academic Distress Commission, replacing Diane Xander.
Rivera, who retired in 2019 after 49 years with the Lorain Police Department, was appointed by Lorain Mayor Jack Bradley.
The Lorain Academic Distress Commission oversees the operation of Lorain City Schools.

On Dec. 11, Rivera said he sees himself as a grassroots advocate for students and families on a community level.
âI ve been involved with the schools for about 30 years in a lot of different phases to help them with levies and just different programs,â he said. Â âAnd so, I m a big supporter of Lorain Schools and Lorain teachers and staff, but I love the kids there and I want to see them succeed.
