Our birthday is a chance to talk about all the library does and one important part of that work is stewarding the extraordinary special collections at the center for brooklyn history. These are archives are the combined materials from the brooklyn Public Libraries special collections. And those of the former Brooklyn Historical society, and they are literally the most comprehensive collection of brooklyn related materials in the world. So we are celebrating these amazing collections and a 125th Anniversary Series titled out of the box. Five programs that put just few of the most important or most frequently used or beloved Materials Center stage clearly the dodgers and robinson have to be part of that lineup
I to start out by thanking long island for all theyve done for the society of president ial descendants. This is a society of president ial event. But Long Island University is in partnership with the society. And they have really gone out of their way and provided all kinds of resources not only to make this weekend important, because is the first meeting or, as i call it, of the society of president ial descendants, but also all the other things connected with the society and with the Roosevelt School, which will be hall this is its home. And you can see what a magnificent job theyve done on this house which if seen it six months ago was or even three months ago was a work site if if a work site and i urge you to walk around and look at some of the rooms. The idea this is its not a replica of its themed on the white house and the and so we are hoping this will become a major destination here in long long island. The number of cases worldwide is approaching 3 million. Onethird of the cases here in the United States. The u. S. Death toll is approaching 55,000. But this morning, several states are beginning to ease restrictions and reopen some businesses. At least 13 states will take action this week. That includes restaurants and movie theaters in georgia, curb side rental businesses in colorado. Even states that are not changing a thing this week, like new york, are beginning to talk about how and where thing might change if the situation continues to improve.
