Toowoomba chocolatier, Metiisto Artisan Chocolate has won a gold medal for their Patovaki 72% dark chocolate in London’s Academy of Chocolate Awards, despite struggling to stay afloat throughout the pandemic.
Owner and operator Trevor Smith said businesses was massively affected by COVID-19 and his family came close to shutting the business in April.
He told Sky News they managed to stay in business, however, due to online sales and local famers markets.
“I think this whole thing ah really shaken people up where people want to get behind Australian stories, support real businesses and kind of weed out the businesses that aren’t really doing what they say they’re doing,” Mr Smith said.
