The Tempe rockers had chosen that title because it seemed to be what everyone was telling them after the loss of guitarist Doug Hopkins, who died by suicide in 1993 shortly after receiving a gold record for Hey Jealousy.
Hopkins had written that hit and several other highlights of New Miserable Experience but had been fired near the end of the recording sessions due to his ongoing struggles with alcoholism.
With a film on Hopkins life now in development from a screenplay by Tucson filmmakers Brian and Maggie Smith and the 30th anniversary of the album that remains their calling card on the horizon, here s a look at 30 of their best songs.
