The Andrews Labor Government has delivered a new playspace in Hume and announced a major investment in a new community hub in Broadmeadows through its landmark
Growing Suburbs Fund.
Minister for Local Government Shaun Leane and Member for Broadmeadows Frank McGuire today officially opened the playground upgrade at Kirwan Park, near Greenvale Reservoir in the south of the fast-growing Hume community.
The project received $117,500 from the 2020-21 round of the
Growing Suburbs Fund, which supports projects that support better services, connections and opportunities for the local community.
The new playspace features new modern, sustainable, and locally made playground equipment, including swings, a cubby house and rock steppers. The area surrounding the playground has also been updated with new seating, picnic tables, garden beds and trees to provide natural shade on hot days.

Delivering services and support for Flinders community
Mornington Peninsula Shire Mayor Councillor Despi O’Connor, Deputy Mayor Councillor Sarah Race, Nepean Ward Councillor Hugh Fraser, Cerberus Ward Councillor Lisa Dixon, Red Hill Ward Councillor David Gill, Briars Ward Councillor Steve Holland and Seawinds Ward Councillors Antonella Celi and Debra Mar today joined Minister for Local Government Shaun Leane and Member for Nepean Chris Brayne at the project site for the highly anticipated Flinders Community Hub.
In September 2020, the Shire received $2.15 million towards the Flinders Civic Hall redevelopment through the State Government’s expanded Growing Suburbs Fund. In 2019/20, Council allocated $200,000 to progress the design phase and will match the $2.15 million funding providing a total budget of $4.5M for this exciting development.

Minister for Local Government visits Baw Baw Shire Council
Baw Baw Shire Council welcomed a visit from Victorian Minister for Local Government Shaun Leane at the West Gippsland Arts Centre on Wednesday.
The purpose of the visit was to explore ways for the State Government and Council to work together through programs like the Growing Suburbs Fund (GSF) to create local jobs and support those who have been hardest hit by the pandemic.
The Minister met with Mayor Cr Danny Goss and CEO Mark Dupe to discuss the current challenges and upcoming opportunities for the Shire.
The Mayor provided an update on growth statistics for the Shire, with the population projected to increase to 110,000 by 2035.

The Andrews Labor Government is ensuring new career opportunities for forty women who will soon begin training as municipal building surveyors thanks to funding from the
Victorian Budget 2020/21.
Minister for Local Government Shaun Leane today joined the Member for Northcote Kat Theophanous, Darebin City Council Mayor Cr Lina Messina and Darebin City Council CEO Sue Wilkinson to meet with Grace Tan one of the 40 women who will receive funding to train to become a municipal building surveyor.
The $6.3 million
Women Building Surveyors Program attracted widespread interest from councils and council staff. Of the successful applications, 28 councils have already identified a female staff member to take up the opportunity, while another 12 will recruit in coming months.
