Enjoy a riverside feast in Ilkley this June

READY to eat some good food, sip on a refreshing drink and wander around the festival site on the Ilkley Riverside? The easing of Covid-19 restrictions means the Ilkley Food and Drink Festival will be able to go ahead on June 12 and 13, 2021, at East Holmes Field. A spokesperson for the Ilkley Food Festival team said: “The latest announcements means it’s all systems go at Ilkley Food & Drink Festival HQ. “As a naturally socially-distanced event, we are blessed with the opportunity to go ahead with our event as planned. “This means you’ll still get your cookery demonstrations, live music, bars, artisan markets, live entertainment, street food and much more.

How food businesses are helping us beat lockdown boredom

How food businesses are helping us beat lockdown boredom As we’ve cooked like never before, bought more food online and ordered takeaways instead of eating out during lockdown, many restaurants, pubs and food producers have switched their business models quickly to survive – offering new ways to enjoy food from home. Some have changed how they sell food, with producers who once sold to restaurants now selling directly to the public, and restaurants offering takeaway deliveries. Others have launched online cookery classes for kids and adults alike. So what’s on offer and how can it help us deal with our lockdown misery while supporting struggling businesses?

Bistro Saigon announces its closure with a heavy heart

A VIETNAMESE restaurant in Ilkley has closed its doors after 16 years. Bistro Saigon, owned and run by Loc Bui and Paula Cooper, announced the news with a “heavy heart” on their Facebook page. The restaurant, in Railway Road, offered an “authentic Vietnamese experience in a charming Ilkley eatery with first class customer service by our knowledgeable and gracious staff members”, according to its website. The Bistro Saigon team posted to Facebook: “It is with a heavy heart that we announce the closure of Bistro Saigon. 2020 was a challenging year for us all! It was also a year of reflection for us and allowed us to step back and reassess our work life balance. With all this in mind and the current restrictions not easing anytime soon we have decided to close. We were hoping we could leave with a special celebratory meal, however sadly that isn’t to be. This is not goodbye but farewell for now.”
