Minister of Foreign Affairs Urmas Reinsalu (Isamaa) said that at the Thursday government meeting it was decided that Minister of Economic Affairs Riina Sikkut (SDE) will prepare an analysis of the feasibility of acquiring an LNG vessel for Paldiski for the current and the next heating seasons.
Director General of the Estonian Competition Authority Evelin Pärn-Lee said that the terms and conditions for LNG terminal use could be made public in the coming days. The text makes no mention of Estonian or Finnish companies receiving preferential treatment. Such favoring treatment, as agreed upon by the ministers of both countries, may need to be codified in law.
Elering CEO Taavi Veskimäe said that Elering did not invest in leasing the FSRU, an LNG storage ship with an onboard regassification plant, due to the inability to reach a cost-sharing agreement with Finnish Gasgrid.
Estonia's gas supply is guaranteed wherever the LNG storage vessel docks and preferential terms for local companies are "super good news", head of Eesti Gaas Margus Kaasik said, after it was reported on Monday afternoon that the ship will initially be based in Finland.
Ain Hanschmidt, the chair of the board of Infortar, said that Estonian companies were excluded from the most recent auction in Klaipeda. He said that the private sector cannot bring an LNG ship to Estonia on its own and that state cooperation is required.
