With the help of Dorset police, MI5 were confidently closing in on three subversive potential terrorists living quietly together near the sea almost 85 years ago. Local officers had been alerted to their shared communist sympathies and were now monitoring the suspects: Ackland, Townsend and Warner, each one deemed a threat to Britain’s security in the run-up to the second world war.

NEW DELHI: The Supreme Court has sought responses from shareholders of the nearly 100-year-old Lakshmi Vilas Bank (LVB) on a petition by the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) seeking consolidated hearing of petitions. These have been filed before four high courts, challenging the merger of LVB with the Indian subsidiary of Singapore’s DBS Bank.
A single-judge bench of Justice M M Shantanagoudar issued notice to Aum Capital Markets after solicitor general Tushar Mehta said it would be better to avoid multiplicity of decisions by consolidating the various petitions before the HCs of Bombay, Delhi, Madras and Karnataka airing the same grievance over the amalgamation scheme.
